Research Interests: Research in my laboratory focuses on vascular development and disease, particularly in understanding the differentiation of cells in the vessel wall. Using the tools of mouse genetics, we study how extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins influence vascular cell differentiation and stabilize appropriate gene expression in the differentiated phenotype. Mouse models are also used to evaluate how mutations in key extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins lead to human cardiovascular disease. Our interests also include understanding the basic cell biology of ECM secretion and its assembly outside the cell.
